Back to School Prep

As we near the start of a new school year, we wanted to share helpful tips for parents as they prepare their children for the transition from summer break to the back-to-school routine.

  • A few weeks before school starts, start easing toward school friendly sleep schedules.

  • Kids like knowing what’s happening, and what the plan is. Share updates with them, so they know what to expect.

    • Who’s their teacher?

    • Are you planning on having a different pick-up schedule, or pick up person?

    • Are they going to have a set activity schedule?

      • Posting a schedule can help; written, or visual.

        • This can be a weekly, monthly, or even a morning routine.

    • We do better when we know what we need to do.

    • Visual schedules can also be helpful in keeping distracted children on track.

    • Check out the School Social Stories Bundle, available on our TPT page, which includes many social stories and visuals that share school expectations and help children prepare for their role as a student in the classroom. https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/Product/Social-Stories-School-Bundle-4511116#show-price-update

  • Get children into the habit of putting their school supplies in specific places and prepping them the night before.

  • Does your child get hangry?

    • A regulated child is ready to learn. Make sure they eat a protein rich breakfast, get enough sleep, and are amply hydrated.

    • Pack a ready to go afternoon snack.

  • Have a homework plan. Who helps with homework and when.

  • Lastly, do something nice for you. You survived the summer!

I hope you found these "funtastic" tips helpful!
